Our oldest daughter was born 10 years ago and she has been a source of inspiration ever since. She was the start of everything, she and our life of travelling and eating around the world with friends and family.
She is intolerant to gluten, fructose, lactose, and cow’s milk protein, and we were thrust into a state of confusion, in a race to find products and ingredients with which we could cook for her and for us too, because in our family we all eat the same. Always!
We faced aisles of products without gluten, completely unattractive, packed with sugar, as well as expensive, the frustration and disappointment was yet another battle against which we fought.
The one thing we were certain of was that we wanted to be sure that she didn’t become someone who didn’t enjoy eating. We didn’t want her to suffer every time she sat down to eat nor that she would be deprived of the incredible pleasure that is eating well. So, this became our fight; homemade snacks made on Sundays for picking her up from school during the week, baking bread together, pasta, vegetable soups, crepes, waffles, and everything necessary to have a balanced, healthy, and delicious array of options.
This experience we mixed with our reality of cooking and sharing our joy of eating around large tables with friends and family, some that come and go, from different cultures, different diets, religions, different tastes…
So, we began to reflect on what the food brand of the 21st century would be like. Finally, we were able fulfill our dream to create a brand that was down-to-earth, great tasting, very easy to use, and at the same time was apt for the majority of diets and lifestyles, a brand that was honest and warm.
And our next child was born: Delicious & Sons.
Products that are organic, non-GMO, from our beloved Mediterranean, with easy-to-like flavors but that also stand out, ready to use and easy to include in our daily meals, also gluten-free and made with extra virgin olive oil.
If there’s anybody who thinks that their child isn’t going to try a Spicy Black Olive Spread, all you have to do is look at this photo to see this little guy on my lap enjoying what he’s eating with something as simple as a breadstick. In the end it’s a question of how we introduce them to the joy and pleasure in eating and having them try everything.
Cooking with our pasta sauces is as simple as heating the sauce and pouring it over cooked pasta. Add some freshly grated parmesan all that’s left is to enjoy the aroma and full flavor of the Italian red tomatoes that are in every jar.
If you don’t want to always cook pasta with the tomato sauce, you can also make eggplant parmesan, where the tomato sauce has a leading role.
If you’d rather prepare a chicken dish, check out this video recipe here.
Another fun idea is to make tempura; with vegetables, fish or shellfish, and use our aiolis and vegetable spreads as dips, something both kids and adults will like. Here are some video recipe ideas.
Hamburgers: tofu, beef, rice, legumes, fish… but why limit your condiments to ketchup and mayonnaise? Adding one of our aiolis would be a wonderfully taste sensation for your palate. If you’d like to see a recipe click here.
And what about sandwiches… Why not try dressing a sandwich with one of our pestos? Click here for sandwich recipes.
Avocado toasts are fantastic, and are even better if we add our Organic Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto Rosso or Organic Basil Pesto to the bread. Click here for the recipe.
And the best part of all is that these recipes are easy to make, but also, without a doubt, we can cook them in family with our kids, or share with your friends, something that we don’t do enough which is satisfying and brings us together.
Happy Cooking!
